Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz smoked sausage turkey, chicken, or beef
  • 12 oz pasta penne, bow tie, or your favorite shape
  • 2 cups shredded cheese sharp cheddar, pepper jack, or a blend
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Optional Add-Ins:
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions
 

Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Slice the smoked sausage into ¼-inch rounds.
  • Chop the onion and mince the garlic.
  • Shred the cheese if not pre-shredded.

Cook the Pasta:

  • Boil the pasta in salted water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Brown the Sausage:

  • Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced sausage and cook for 4-5 minutes until lightly browned. Remove and set aside.

Sauté the Aromatics:

  • In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Prepare the Sauce:

  • Pour in the chicken broth and heavy cream. Stir to combine.
  • Add smoked paprika, red pepper flakes (if using), Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened.

Add Cheese and Combine:

  • Gradually stir in the shredded cheese until melted and smooth.
  • Add the cooked pasta and browned sausage to the skillet. Toss until evenly coated.

Optional Add-Ins:

  • If using broccoli or diced tomatoes, stir them in and cook for 2-3 minutes until heated through.

Serve:

  • Garnish with grated Parmesan and fresh parsley. Serve immediately.
