Dry Ingredients:
- 2 cups 250g all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup 150g granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg optional, for warmth
Wet Ingredients:
- ¾ cup 180ml buttermilk (or ¾ cup milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For Frying:
- 4 cups vegetable oil or canola, peanut oil
Optional Toppings:
- Cinnamon sugar ½ cup sugar + 1 tbsp cinnamon
- Powdered sugar glaze 1 cup powdered sugar + 2 tbsp milk
- Chocolate glaze ½ cup melted chocolate + 2 tbsp heavy cream
